What is a Pelvis MRI?
An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan generates images of the body by manipulating magnetic fields and radio waves. MRI scans can be performed for many body parts, including but not limited to the
hip, the
cervical spine, and the
chest. A pelvis MRI produces pictures of the area between your hips. It allows a detailed look at the pelvic bones, reproductive organs, lymph nodes, blood vessels, and more.
What is the purpose of a Pelvis MRI?
There are a number of reasons why your doctor might request an MRI scan of the pelvis, as it can help detect and evaluate:
- Unexplained pain in the pelvic area
- Urinary issues
- Cancer and tumours
- Lumps and swelling
- Abnormal bleeding
- Pain with bowel movements
